Non-Aboriginal stereotypes of Aborigines were consistently

Aborigines also stereotyped Aborigines in general in a negative
fashion. However, on most items stereotyped negatively by Aborigines
themselves, the degree of support for negative stereotyping by non-
Aborigines was clearly greater.
We are presented with a typification for Aborigines that is
predominantly negative within their own universe of meaning, but
overwhelmingly negative on the part of mainstream society.
Thus Aborigines see the Aboriginal world as negative; mainstream
society sees it as even more negative.
