FOCUS CASS CORRIDOR

Located downtown adjacent, Cass Corridor demarcates an area commonly re-
ferred to as midtown. Currently it is experiencing a bohemian based revival that
is placing high importance on an art community. It houses Wayne State Univer-
sity and the Contemporary Art Museum.

This thesis utilizes a less hopeful slice of the Corridorthat settles directly next
to downtown named Cass Park. It rests in the bend of the 1-75 interstate and is
overwhelmed by abandonment and poverty. The programmatic makeup consists
highly of low end commercial, some light industrial, and a damaged yet varied
residential portfolio. The population is mainly African American and once har-
bored the Young Boys Incorporated (a nationally predominant 1980's drug cartel).
