Abstract

In the last few years, there has been an increase in the activity of foreign exchange market in the Chilean economy. There
has also been an increment in the use of derivative instruments by economic agents. Such scenario has generated a rise
in the demand, of this kind of information, in different analysts, both local and foreign. All of this has also motivated the
creation of new foreign statistics by the Central Bank of Chile.

In this context, this paper presents the main concepts related to foreign exchange statistics, spot and derivatives, to facilitate
their understanding and analysis to the general public.
