Biographical Notes

Annette Braun is a Research Officer at the Institute of Education, University of
London. She is currently a researcher on the ESRC funded project 'Local Childcare
Cultures: working class families and choice of pre school childcare' and completing a
PhD on young women graduates choosing teaching as a career.

Carol Vincent is a Reader at the Institute of Education, University of London. She
has written widely in the areas of childcare, families and social class. Her most recent
book is
Childcare, Choice and Class Practices (with Stephen Ball) (Routledge 2006).

Stephen J. Ball is the Karl Mannheim Professor of Sociology of Education at the
Institute of Education, University of London. He has written and published
extensively in the areas of education policy, choice and markets and social class. His
most recent book is
