Lesley Burgess and Nicholas Addison

Lesley Burgess is a lecturer in Art, Design & Museology at the IoE. She is Course
Leader for the PGCE course in Art and Design and teaches on both the MA Art &
Design in Education and Museums & Galleries in Education courses: between 1992
and 2001 she was Co-Director of the Artists in Schools Training Programme. Before
moving to the Institute in 1990 she taught for 15 years in London comprehensive
schools. She was a trustee of Camden Arts Centre. She has co-edited with Addison,
N.
Issues in Art & Design Teaching (2003) also published by Routledge Falmer. Her
main research interests are curriculum development, issues of gender and
Contemporary Art & Artists in Education. She co-directed, with the V&A, a DfEE
funded research project 'Creative Connections' (2002) which investigated the use of
galleries and museums as a learning resource and co-directed with Nicholas Addison
‘En-quire: Critical Minds’ (2005-6) evaluating the significance of learning in galleries
on contemporary art.

Nicholas Addison is a senior lecturer in Art, Design & Museology at the IoE and is
Course Leader for the MA Art & Design in Education. He supervises doctoral
students, is a tutor on the PGCE Art & Design secondary course and coordinator for
