The film lacks any humanity in its characterisations, wringing
more or less predic table laughs out of a number of
commonplace experiences from seasickness to seduction, yet
making no attempt to construct any sympathy in the audience
for its characters beyond the schematic figure of the young
doctor played by the enormously popular star Dirk Bogarde.
